Dear Friends of Building Movement:

The Building Movement Project (BMP) has teamed up with The Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO) and will host a Community Action Training (CAT) June 3-5, 2011 here in Detroit. The Building Movement Project is currently working with a number of neighborhood organizations and agencies across Detroit to help build their capacity for civic engagement including community organizing. Community members, staff, activists and organizational members are welcomed. This training specifically targets for participation those with little or no organizing experience but who are interested in learning and applying organizing tools and strategies in their work. Space is limited and there are a limited number of scholarships available on a first come basis.

The Community Action Training (CAT) is a 3-day, intensive introduction to grassroots organizing. It is an entry-level organizer training for activist and members of community designed to build skills and knowledge about organizing through hands on experience, role-plays and discussions. During this high-intensity three-day training, CAT participants also learn how to door-knock as a tool for recruiting & mobilizing their community. Participants learn the importance of campaign strategy and its use in planning for direct action. The training examines the legacy of organizing in communities of color and its relevance in today’s fight for social justice.

Learn from experienced organizers, share skills and knowledge with other activists and emerging organizers and have fun meeting dedicated folks who are committed to building a movement for social and racial justice.
